I've been experimenting with some different techniques. On the left I used a mono print for the background and on the right I used tissue paper in the chine colle effect. I think I prefer the mono print as it is less precise.

Yes me too I prefer the monoprint colour. Chine colle is good but as you say is a bit uniform when using colours tissue paper. Printmakers often use Chinese or Japanese papers that have a soft cream or oat colour, or something like mulberry paper with flecks in it. 🤫 Although sometimes times I wonder if it's worth the effort for something you can hardly see. 🤔
