Pop over to my Blog to see the post I've just added about the day I spent last week at Handprinted in Bognor learning Wood Engraving with David Peduzzi.
I'm not sure you can use the lino cutting tools, except to clear large areas maybe. The engraving tools skim along the surface and only take a tiny bit off the top.I'm sure you could use the red carbon paper to transfer your design. I just sketched a rough idea onto the block. The block is stained with a black ink, so as you engrave you see the contrast in the marks.I'll bring this to show you, but it is the same as lino, in that it is relief and in black and white so you could get the same image. But it's different, in that it is such fine lines and if I practice more I'm sure there are much subtler things that can be done with tone and form.
Many thanks Tricia.
Very interesting Tricia. You produced a beautiful print. Can I ask you a few questions?
I thought you could use the the lino pfeil tools for wood engraving as well? How do you transfer the image onto the block?
Can you use red carbon paper? Does the print produced look any different to a lino print?
Looks great fun. Must try it some time.
