Regarding a current motivation and inspiration topic just e mailed by Tricia: what about " art journaling" or daily or periodic and themed journaling as putforward by...Suzi Gablik...is it?... who has put out a fairly famous book on this sort of topic if getting new or revived motivation in all or any areas of art and life....The Way of The Artist I think the bookis called...a series of steps and approaches to help get beyond artist block and similar topics: I tried joining in with an art friend who did a course exploring this during later lockdown times...going through the themed chapters...or adapting them as inclined...and some seem to find this approach of just journaling away whatever is currently in the mind can help to get beyond or take position on whatever sometimes is in the way...whether negative thoughts or other subjects...I also recall a tv documentary about artist Maggie Hamblin who would start of with any or various subconscious scribbles and stimuli and then see where it took her both creatively and subconsciously...it seemed another interesting approach...and maybe also taking themes from art therapy approaches or even Max Ernst( the surrealist) style incorporations of chance into art...! Yes The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron that is the one..Suzi Gablik wrote on other art subjects such as Has Modernism Failed and on The Re- enchantment of Art…
Andy thanks for this. I know a lot of people have worked through The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. It has always been described as quite a perceptive book, so I've never jumped at giving it a go. But if you're after a bit of structure, I think this would be a great book to try.
Your idea about journaling is really interesting and worth exploring.
